Wood Hughes, author of "Hell Fighters" published in the Grantville Gazette, Volume III, is a land broker in Georgia. He has been in real estate sales since 1983, and holds the professional designations of Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Accredited Land Consultant (ALC), and is currently working on his Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation.

Prior to real estate, he worked both on and off air for eleven years in radio and TV in Tuscaloosa, AL, Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA, New Orleans, LA, Charlotte, NC, and Houston, TX, plus an additional five years as permanent guest host of an Atlanta real estate talk show. Additionally, Wood served in the US Army Reserve for eight years as an Infantry officer, exiting as a Captain.

Married to Gloria Adams Hughes since 1995, they are both active in the Peachtree Presbyterian Church (USA). Wood began reading sci-fi at an early age when he was looking through his grandmother's books and happened upon "Princess of Mars" and others in the Edgar Rice Burroughs famed Warlord of Mars series. They, and the Tarzan books also present, had belonged to his uncle who had died before Wood was born. Before that, all he had known about Morris Cousins was that he had been Assistant Police Chief of the City of Birmingham during World War II. This began a life long passion for the adventures that books allow you to experience.
