The Castle at Rudolstadt

This isn't really a "castle" so much as a palace. The German word "schloss" has a wider spread of meaning than the English term "castle" that it's usually translated as. Whatever, the edifice has been in existence for centuries, and was the seat of whoever ruled the Rudolstadt area. The way it looks today, of course, includes a lot of accretions from later periods.

I'll say this: The German nobility did quite well by itself. Just looking at this gargantuan thing -- for a "realm" that was really no bigger than a county -- was enough to arouse every sans-culotte instinct in ursus' furry little heart. (Admittedly, not hard to do.)
