Suhl

It's hard to get a good picture of Suhl as a whole, because the town is nestled against the southern edge of the heart of the Thuringenwald. The terrain is a lot steeper here than it is around Jena or the Thuringian Basin, so it's hard to get a panaromic view of anything. This photo gives you some idea of it.

Suhl was a center of armaments manufacturing for centuries, going back to the middle ages. This is a picture of the weapons and weapon-making museum. In the pictures which follow, are some of the contents of the museum.

This painting depicts arms making in the 18th century in Suhl, but it wouldn't have changed all that much from the previous century.

This is a street scene from Suhl's downtown area.
